update: this is a very old post from July 2007. I seem to still getting a lot of hits from it. Nokia has updated the Firmware and my sources tell me that the problems are sorted. You have to install Nokia Software Update, and it will dedect new update for Nokia E65I have moved on a long time ago and am now using the N95 8gb which is amazing.
If my mobile was running a Microsoft application surely we would blame Microsoft, right? But I am running Symbian and my phone is crashing in any situation. Even if I am on a normal voice call – it simply crashes. Am I blaming Symbian? Not sure yet….
My phone is a bitch – anything is installed and (most) of the things are beta.
So lets take a look at the possible suspects.
Truphone (beta) – cannot be blamed anymore is uninstalled – after all it seems it was not responsible for my phone crashes
Fring (beta) – uninstalled a few days a go – it is not the culprit
Gmail (beta) – might be the cause although had this ever since I had the phone so I doubt.
FT mobile news reader: I would really really miss this one – am hoping it is not the cause.
TomTom mobile version 6 – I doubt it but you never know
My expenses (recommended by Nokia) – possible
Reuters news reader I have uninstalled this one today as it seems Reuters is no longer offering this (!?!)
World Mate recommended by Nokia – cool application to convert currencies, check time zones and weather
Scanr see here for a quick description – I might uninstall it to see if this could be the cause.
Birdstep Smart connect (a cool application) always checks for wireless before connecting you to expensive wap or contract Internet UPDATE this application is no longer available!!!
Opera Mobile the best mobile browser known to me
Again if this phone had an operating system from Microsoft I would be blaming Microsoft (not fair is it?). Does anybody have a clue who to blame? Is it Symbian, is it Nokia or is it some of the above mentioned companies?

it seems it is a nokia e65 specific problem and has nothing to do with any of the above applications.

I just got my E65 a few days ago. I have a lot of those apps installed already and I just had my first crash… it was definitely the Nokia Podcast application that’s caused it… also some of the WiFi functionality can cause random hiccups.
Just an update… I worked out that it was the mp4 files from one of the podcasts that was causing the crashes. Not sure why but when I deleted the videos folder with Y-Browser everything went back to normal. Go figure.
Any correspondence you would like to have on the E65… which I am personally very excited about and happy with… please use either my myspace or email as I’m not on my computer atm and can’t bookmark your blog.

Yes that is what I love about the E65 – It is a small and cute phone and you can surf with it.. I will ask Luke which Firmware version he is using….. (still no official update sadly) http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014
I had similar problems till I removed the Birdstep SmartConnect.
