Nokia E65 crashing firmware version 1.0633.18.01

July 8, 2007 by André

update: this is a very old post from July 2007. I seem to still getting a lot of hits from it. Nokia has updated the Firmware and my sources tell me that the problems are sorted. You have to install Nokia Software Update, and it will dedect new update for Nokia E65I have moved on a long time ago and am now using the N95 8gb which is amazing.

I reported earlier that I suspected some of my applications to be responsible for the random crashes of my Nokia E65. Today however I spoke to a friend who told me a work colleague of hers also dropped of randomly when they were speaking by phone. His phone Nokia E65. Custom applications? NO… A quick internet search revealed the following post:

New E65 randomly rebooting and app’s crashing

“Dear Nokia,
Pleas etake the time and effort to supply a working E65 firmware for downloading since the one that my E65 was shipped with (1.0633.18.01) works rather poorly:
- The webbrowser will crash randomly
- The network connection will quit randomly
- The phone will reboot randomly
And this while I only have used about 0.1% of all available features on said phone. One could say the failure rate is rather high.
I upgraded from a Nokia 6310i that actually still worked quite well but was not Bluetooth compatible with my new car-kit so I made the dubious decision to upgrade (downgrade?) to the E65, since the N95 was just a little too much of a good thing for me.
As it turns out the N95 already has firmware upgrades while the older E65 that would benefit from less bugs too apparently was forgotten.
Please oh please fix your product.
Sincerely,
sprins”

Whilst I have a lot of respect for the guys from Nokia as they have made this beautiful phone I do ask urgently for a firmware upgrade as more users are having problems: See this forum. It seems there are other versions of the software available but Nokia has not yet released a firmware update.

PS: Even though these are serious Problems I love the Nokia E65 and it is by far the sexiest and best phone I have ever had.

it’s my nokia E65 first week of life and I have noticed some problems.
The Battery after a phone call is very hot and sometimes the battery gets warm alone….
There are some network problems that I really can’t solve.
Sometimes it decides to stop to get the line connection even if the signal seems to be high.
Unfortunatly there are no software updates available on the site.
I am looking forward to receiving the goods news of a firmware update….
For the other options this mobile phone is really great.

Yes I’m on my 2nd E65 and it’s going back to Orange to swap for an N95

    Problems

Network Busy even when other Orange phones are OK
    Shhhhhhhhhh noise on outgoing calls
    Reboots
    Crashing apps
    Cut off of caller
Loss of signal until phone rebooted

My advice get another phone, but buggy software seems to be Nokia’s party piece since the 8310!

My E65 keeps on crashing, particularly when I open the slide to answer a call… which, as you can imagine, is very annoying. Waiting and hoping that they’ll deliver an update sometime soon.

WLan on my E65 drops out several times a day,
    sometimes it reboots.

I could be a great phone, if only Nokia would fix theese problems.

I have the same vesion by Telefonica in Spain.
I cannot believe it how many problems this telephone has.
Will it be a new firmware update in 2008?
Will be be transparent for any branded telephone?
Please Nokia SOLVE this problem and do not make pressure to change for a N95.

    Thanks

    Carlos

This telephone is absolutely rubbish. I got mine from Movistar here in Spain and it keeps on crashing. Sometimes you don’t even have to touch anything, it just crashes by itself.

Please, Nokia, fix these problems or refund all your international customers.
