On my way to Mexico

Liz and myself flew to Miami last night. We arrived early this morning and are currently at the airport waiting for our rental company to open the offices.

Yesterday morning we tried to hire a car via phone and Internet and there was only 1 company which had cars available. All Day Rent A Car in Miami. We filled in the online form and set the pick up time to 4.30 am. When we called this morning at 5.30 am the automated voice said:

“Thank you for calling All Day Rent A Car. All our offices are closed!! They open 7 days a week at 8.30 am

Once we have the car we will be heading to an outlet center. Liz will be in paradise 🙂 Lets see if we get a car.. More to come.. 🙂

Christmas away

It is the first year ever that I will not be spending Christmas with my parents. I have two thoughts about this and both are equally true. While I am thinking about this specific topic I am sad but also I am happy. Sad obviously because I want to be with my parents at Christmas but happy because I found love and can share all the special moments with my partner.

This year Christmas is no real Christmas for me also because I just did not get in to Christmas mood. For me Christmas is snow, cold.. etc.. Here we have sun 30 and more Celsius and beach. No I would not want it to be cold but it is NOT Christmas for me. I am skipping Christmas 2008 / totally. No Christmas Tree nothing. This does not make me unhappy In this moment I am a little sad in fact I am crying right now…. ;(

It is hard to write what exactly I feel so I think I will stop now. But not without saying that although I am sad and very emotional at the same time I am really happy to be with Liz. “If you are reading this Liz and be sure I will make you read it 😉 I Love you”

Below are two pictures. One I received from my brother via his Christmas Newsletter to show you how Austria is in Christmas and the other is Chile. Both are beautiful. But it is NOT Christmas for me in Chile.

Christmas in Austria Christmas in Chile

There are a few other expat bloggers in Chile (around the world) who have written about Christmas away. Continue reading “Christmas away”

Hablas Español? – November in Chile

Do I speak Spanish? No unfortunately not yet.

But I am totally excited since today I have booked my flight to Santiago de Chile. I am leaving the UK in one of the most horrible months. My flight is leaving on Saturday the 3rd of November. I will come back on Sunday December 2nd 🙂

5 years ago my friends Heiko and Juliane told me all about their experience of blearing Spanish in Valencia   it was my dream to do something similar. I never did. Everytime I changed jobs I committed to start right away and usually it is hard to get 4 weeks in a row…..

Two years ago I met a beautiful young lady who told me about her experience in Chile… I did not think I would ever do it and was actually planning to go to Barcelona this August to do the course… But it happened Accommodation was too expensive in Barcelona and so I was searching the web and finally I booked the Chile experience yeah :):):):):):):)

Details? The flight is with Iberia – there are no direct flights to Chile and I went for price. Business class? No no – I fly “cow class” as my friend calls it 😉 20 hours per direction with a stop in Madrid.

The language course is offered by Latin Immersion so far they have been very nice and helpful. They will provide the accommodation (shared housing) and will provide the language training (20 hours per week). I will be reporting about the course and about the country once I am there.

The following information is for the UK tax people: “The company I work for wants me to learn Spanish so there is someone who can look after the Spanish speaking markets… I will of course try to get a tax credit for this. Anyone living in the UK who has experience with tax credits for something similar ?
